Rural Durham Community Research Network Meeting

Join us for our next in-person quarterly network meeting ‘Understanding the value of creative methods within research’ on Wednesday 20th May from 09. 45am to 12.30pm at Ebchester Community Centre, Consett, England, DH8 0PY; teas, coffees and cake provided.

This event is designed for VCSE organisations, community groups, and anyone keen to explore and demonstrate the value of creative approaches in research. Attendees will hear from guest speakers, be invited to join table-based activities exploring the ethical considerations of creative methods, reflect on how to showcase the value of creative methods in their own work/research and connect with others with similar interests.

You’ll hear from two experienced guest speakers who will bring creative methods to life through real examples, showcasing how these approaches can amplify community voices and remove barriers. They’ll also share practical considerations to help you apply creative methods in your own work. Guest speakers will include:

  • ‍Katie Milne from Northern Heartlands will lead a session exploring how creative methods can be a powerful tool for community-led research and enabling different voices and perspectives to be heard.  We will explore ways in which unheard community voices can be surfaced and how we can consider the conditions that might be needed to gather them.

  • Mary Robson, Senior Creative Facilitation Manager from the Institute of Medical Humanities at Durham University, will join us to talk about the importance of creativity within research. Drawing from her extensive experience in creative practice, from theatre design to community-based arts in health and education she will provide examples of creative methods, when these methods can be useful in a community research project, and the importance of thinking ethically about creativity.
