Training session 1:
Introduction to community research

This first session sets the tone for the Rural Durham Community Research Network workshop series.

It includes time to get to know each other, and explore what community-led research means.

Together, participants will agree on expectations and ground rules, discuss research ethics, and begin thinking about their own research ideas. The session also includes time for reflection, questions, and a shared lunch.

  • An overview of what future training workshops will cover, and the research proposal process

  • Setting expectations, agreeing ground rules, and discussing any concerns

  • What is research? What is Community-led Research?

  • Research ethics and everyday ethics

  • Lunch

  • Initial research thoughts including possible topics and purposes, partners, methods, and ethical considerations

  • Reflections and questions, and preparation for next workshop
